House of Wax Photos Elisha Cuthbert Happy Endings, Elisha Cuthbert, 'Un-sabotagable', Season 3, Ep. As she transitioned from a beautiful young ingénue to a more mature performer, Cuthbert continually sought out new challenges in both film and television. Cuthbert's reduced involvement with "24" and theatrical failures like the controversial thriller "Captivity" (2007) somewhat diminished her star wattage, although a return to television on the comedy "Happy Endings" (ABC, 2011-13) kept the spotlight firmly on the actress. Smaller turns in films like "Old School" (2003) and "Love Actually" (2003) soon paved the way for leading roles in such projects as the romantic comedy "The Girl Next Door" (2004) and the horror feature "House of Wax" (2005). Immensely popular from its first season, "24" helped position the actress as one of the new millennium's hottest young talents. ![]() Having worked on several Canadian-produced programs, the 17-year-old Cuthbert relocated to Hollywood where she was cast as Kiefer Sutherland's rebellious daughter on the mega-hit series "24" (Fox, 2001-2010). She delivers her most faceted and raw performance yet."Īnd since there is one negative review listed, let's note that Brian Lowry at CNN wrote that Life & Beth is "a flawed trip down memory lane" and that "the stark rawness of the material doesn't translate into a particularly distinctive series.Canadian-born actress Elisha Cuthbert appeared to be the all-American blonde next door, an advantage that no doubt helped her land a supporting role on one of television's most successful action series early in her career. Similarly, Matthew Gilbert of the Boston Globe wrote that Schumer "grows even further as an actress, becoming a full and dramatically viable character while still finding a place for her comedic themes. Veteran critic Alan Sepinwall wrote, in his review at Rolling Stone, that "Life & Beth is an interesting and ultimately sweet and likable tale, and a solid soft-relaunch of sorts for Schumer herself." This is very much the vibe I've been getting from the show. Kimberly Potts at TheWrap put it simply, stating that Life & Beth will "be one of your favorite binge watches of the year." Which would make the series another feather in the cap of Hulu, one of our picks for the best streaming services. But don't just take my word for it, let's see what those RT-sourced critics have to say. Life & Beth looks like an elevation Schumer's storytelling by mixing her sense of humor with a more down to earth pacing. ![]() While Schumer wrote Trainwreck, she has both directing and executive producer credits on Life & Beth. Schumer's last big project was the Judd Apatow-directed Trainwreck, which seemed heavy on the slapstick and tried to stick the landing on emotions with life changes at its very end. Analysis: Why the critics say you should watch Life & Beth That incident doesn't seem to keep her down and out for two long, as she and John have seemingly very-solid banter, and the plot of bringing a city girl to the country-area seems like it will provide a lot for Schumer to harvest. Beth meets John when she returns to her home town of Long Island after her life is irrevocably changed by a death in the family. ![]()
